bookskeep Value Series: The Value of Learning

At bookskeep, we have implemented a prosperity plan to guide our business throughout our growth and development. As part of this plan, we have established core values that describe who we are, how we conduct ourselves and how we serve our clients. These values include: Learning, Integrity, Communication, Customer Service, and Quality. Over the next several weeks, we’d like to choose one value per blog and share what this value means to us and how our team integrates it into our day-to-day operations.

Value #1: LEARNING

Knowledge is power, and learning is the genesis of knowledge. Staying on top of the latest programs and technologies is how we’re able to provide the level of service we do to our clients as well as to one another as a team. There are always new things to learn that help us interact more effectively.

Marilyn says, “Understanding different personalities is the first step in learning how to effectively help them, so I read a lot about personalities and providing quality customer service. I also try to stay on top of new features and advancements in technology, so that I can be more proactive and efficient and at communicating with clients and the team as needed.”

Sara believes that, “As an accountant, learning never ends on two levels. On one level, an accountant needs to take continuing education courses to stay up-to-date with the current practices. Secondly, an accountant needs to learn about the clients they serve in terms of the business they run and their personalities.”

And Denise feels that, “With today’s technology, learning is a necessary value to keep up with the world. At bookskeep, we are constantly looking at new programs and technology to become as accurate and efficient as we can be. I have taken several classes and have received certifications in several programs utilized by bookskeep. I enjoy learning and do not pass up an opportunity to learn something new. Working through processes and communicating with the other team members has significantly increased my knowledge of bookkeeping. Learning our clients’ business is also important because if we understand what the client does and what they “sell”, we can make better decisions when coding, catch “out of the norm” transactions, and understand all aspects of their books.
